About the competition
The Rotary Cartoon Awards (RCA) is an Australia-wide competition run by the National Cartoon Gallery. The RCA's is highly regarded by those in the industry and is supported by the Australian Cartoonists' Association. The aim of the Awards is to promote and support the cartooning industry and its artists. The RCA commenced in 1989 as an initiative of the Coffs City Rotary Club and, together with valuable community support, the event is now one of the most important cartoon awards in the country.
Known as the ‘Spiritual home of cartooning in Australia’, The National Cartoon Gallery is a not-for-profit registered charity housed in an original underground WWII bunker in Coffs Harbour. Entries from the annual competition help grow the gallery's collection which is now over 24,000 cartoons.
Our recent transformation paves the way for the Gallery to become the go-to destination on the Coffs Coast and a major Australian cultural attraction. It is also the only Cartoon Gallery in Australia. We will continue to give Australian cartoonists a platform as well as to showcase Australian cartooning history for generations to come.
