Rotary Cartoon Awards – Exhibition

Featuring all the best entries from the 2020 Rotary Cartoon Awards (RCA) this exhibition is a favourite now in its 32nd year.  The RCA is an Australia-wide competition open to all cartoonists; professional and enthusiasts. To open our new exhibition space, the National Cartoon Gallery is excited to welcome the wittiest set of cartoons you’ll ever see from the late Bill Leak, master of non-politically correct satire and his son Johannes Leak. These cartoons and caricatures cover the political and social life of Australia over the past 30 years. The official opening of our completed building will be carried out by The Hon. John Barilaro, MP Deputy Premier, NSW & Leader of the National Party in NSW on 23 February at 11:00am with a plaque unveiling to commemorate the event. The National Cartoon Gallery will once again be hosting bi-annual favourite Behind The Lines in the Bunker gallery. This travelling exhibition is curated by the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House in Canberra and celebrates the role of political cartoonists in Australia and the power their drawings have in contributing to our daily political and social discourse.  This year’s theme ‘a dog’s breakfast’ politely describes 2020’s mix of disruption and uncertainty via a collection of 104 cartoons from 36 cartoonists…

This dad’s morning ritual of drawing on his 3 daughter’s lunch-bags has been the highlight of the school day for teachers and students at his local school  for 8 years (and counting). Recently, via Instagram this quirky tradition has also been found to be entertaining 1,000’s of families across the world and now form the foundation of this fun, pun filled exhibition.
