Ben Franklin

34th year of Rotary National Cartoon Awards

Last November, the Australian cartooning version of the Academy Awards was held at the National Cartoon Gallery. Cartoonists from all over the country were in Coffs Harbour for the gala awards presentation night.

The NSW Minister for the Arts, the Hon. Ben Franklin opened the event and Mike Bowers, from the “Talking Pictures” segment from the ABCs “Insiders” program, was a guest presenter.

A large crowd of cartoonists and Coffs Harbour residents enjoyed a colourful night’s entertainment at the Gallery

The Insiders

Gallery shown in ABC’s “Insiders” Program

The National Cartoon Gallery was featured on National television in November.

The presenter of the cartooning segment of the current affairs show was in Coffs Harbour for a big weekend, featuring the Rotary National Cartoon Awards and the Cartoon Industry's Stanley Awards, both of which were held in the National Cartoon Gallery.

Mike Bowers, the show's Presenter, held an interesting discussion with cartoonist, Cathy Wilcox, the President of the Australian Cartoonists Association, inside the new gallery, with the Rotary Cartoon  Awards Exhibition on the surrounding walls.

Cafe verandah 3

Our Café

Our café is operating with a new barista, and people are loving the coffee. Our terrace is a popular spot if you like your coffee with a great view.

When people aren't enjoying the view, they often spend time inside trying to identify all the Prime Ministers we have had since Bob Menzies. This drawing takes up an entire wall in the café. Can you name them all?

Chair Paul McKeon receiving prize from Fiona Barden CHCC

Gallery wins Coffs Coast Tourist Award

At the recent annual Coffs Coast Business Awards, the Cartoon Gallery won the Tourism Experience Award. Our Chairman, Paul McKeon, accepted the Award at a special event, run by the Coffs Harbour Chamber of Commerce. It was presented by Fiona Barden from Coffs Harbour Council.

The Tourism category attracted entries from many of the leading tourist businesses on the Coffs Coast, so the Cartoon Gallery was up against some stiff competition.

The gallery was a finalist in these annual awards in 2019, so it’s very satisfying to be recognised consistently as one of the top tourist experiences on the Coffs Coast.
