SUMMARY:Myths\, Monsters & Martians
DESCRIPTION:  \nMyths\, Monsters and Martians at the National Cartoon Gallery \n  \nThe world of Myths\, Monsters and Martians is the theme for the latest exhibition to open this week at the National Cartoon Gallery in time for the school holidays. \n  \nFeaturing over 150 works from some of Australia’s best cartoonists and illustrators\, it’s a humorous look at scary (and not-so-scary) imaginary creatures from folklore and fiction. \n  \nGallery manager Bruce Nelson said the exhibition has been especially designed for families and a younger audience to enjoy\, however the humour will appeal to all ages. \n  \n“We all love a fictional character and have grown up with them through fairytales and comic books\, which have included those that are often outrageous\, grotesque\, and terrifying through to plain silly and funny\,” he said. \n  \n“This exhibition brings together the best of the genre curated from our extensive collection of over 26\,000 cartoons\, so we really are showing the best of the best. \n  \n“Whether humorous cartoons about Martians invading Earth or well-known characters like Dracula\, the Grim Reaper\, and even Humpty Dumpty and the Cow that Jumped Over the Moon\, we’re showcasing them all.” \n  \nMyths\, Monsters and Martians features award-winning cartoonists including Mark Lynch\, Tony Lopes\, Phil Judd\, and Coffs Harbour’s own Hec Goodall\, with cartoons from the 1980s through to 2025. \n  \nThe exhibition runs until the end of February 2026. \n  \nThe Bunker Gallery features both the National Cartoon Gallery and the National Holden Motor Museum and is open Wednesday to Sunday 10 am to 4 pm. \n  \nFor more information visit nationalcartoongallery.com.au.

SUMMARY:HARMONY
DESCRIPTION:National Cartoon Gallery celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity in new exhibition \nAustralia’s rich cultural diversity will be on show at the National Cartoon Gallery’s latest exhibition to coincide with National Harmony Week in March. \nThe exhibition features over 150 cartoons from some of Australia’s finest talent\, all highlighting the best\, and sometimes worst aspects of a nation built on over 65\,000 years of First Nations cultures and almost 250 years of immigration. \nGallery manager Bruce Nelson said the exhibition theme was very timely given the political and wider debate currently taking place about the topic. \n“Multiculturalism’s defining spirit has evolved in recent years from a “feel-good” policy of celebrating food and festivals into a more complex social and political flashpoint we see daily in the media\,” he said. \n“The collection in this exhibition explores a number of attitudes around multiculturalism and First Nations people through satirical and sometimes brutal commentary. \n“Whatever your view on the subject\, we haven’t sanitised the cartoons chosen for the display and have let the artist’s work speak for their own opinions.” \nHarmony Week is an annual celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity and the benefits it brings to the Australian community. \nThis year Harmony Week will be held from 17 to 23 March and includes the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD) on Friday 21 March. \nThe exhibition opens Wednesday 4th March and runs until 20th April. \nThe Bunker Gallery\, now featuring both the National Cartoon Gallery and the new National Holden Motor Museum\, is open Wednesday to Monday 10 am to 4 pm (closed Tuesdays).
